About Spec Ops: The Line

A third-person shooter in which three American soldiers led by Capt. Walker are sent to Dubai in order to recover whoever remains of an infantry unit, the 33rd Battalion, until they decide to take action against the militants situated in the city. As they progress, however, the logistical and ethical complexity of their objective deepens, and their perception of themselves, and their enemy, is put into question.

Some sections drag a bit in the middle (the cover shooting gets repetitive fast) but that ending stuck with me for years.

The cover system feels dated by modern standards, tbh, but the way it forces you into firefights you can't feel good about is deliberate design, not laziness. Aim assist is clunky, sure, but that friction serves the tone more than it hurts it.

Esa fricción deliberada la sentí también al lado de Max Payne, uno pule el gunplay, este te incomoda a propósito.

I played it right after a rough breakup and somehow the misery on screen made mine feel smaller by comparison.

La misma sensación, honestamente, un juego que te acompaña mejor en un mal momento que en uno bueno.

People act like it invented the morally grey shooter but Max Payne was already toying with guilt and consequence years before this came out.

I remember finishing it late one night and just sitting there in silence, not touching the controller for a good five minutes.

Yo también me quedé así, en silencio total. Por eso lo defiendo tanto, aunque sé que no soy objetiva.
