How does the GameForever ranking work?
Two games face off in a duel and players vote for their favorite. Each vote updates an ELO score, the rating system used in chess: every game starts at 1,500 points and the world ranking is recalculated continuously, vote after vote.
Do I need an account to vote?
No. You vote from the very first second, with no sign-up and no account. Every visitor gets an anonymous identity and their votes count immediately in the world ranking.
What is a game's ELO score?
It is the chess rating system applied to video games: beating a higher-ranked game earns many points, beating a lower-ranked one earns few. The ELO score therefore reflects a game's real strength against all the others, not its raw popularity.
What is the best video game of all time?
According to the votes of the GameForever community, Portal 2 (2011) currently holds first place in the world ranking with an ELO score of 1,993, ahead of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The ranking keeps evolving as duels go on.
How is cheating prevented?
Each duel served is signed and expires after a few minutes, the same visitor cannot vote twice on the same match-up within 24 hours, votes per minute are capped and reflex votes (under 0.5 seconds) are excluded from the ELO calculation.
Is the ranking the same in every language?
Yes. Votes from French-speaking, English-speaking and Spanish-speaking players feed one and the same world ranking: a vote from Paris, a vote from New York and a vote from Madrid carry exactly the same weight.
