Compared to FF9 this hits so much harder emotionally imo, the party writing is just tighter. Not saying FF9 is bad, just diff generation of storytelling…

Comparing eras aside, the vote totals here suggest a lot of people disagree with dismissing it that easily.

The combat system asks something real of you, timing and dodges matter, but the story pacing sags in the middle third for me. Still one of the better new entries I've played in years.

Le milieu qui traîne, je l'ai ressenti pareil, mais est-ce que ça pèse vraiment face à des jeux comme Chrono Trigger qui ne perdent jamais de rythme ?

Played it solo after a rough week, didn't expect it to stick with me like it did.

My kid got bored halfway through, honestly same energy here.

Is it really fair to rank this against games that defined the genre decades ago? Feels like comparing different eras entirely to me.

    CoopRider

Different eras or not, it still has to earn every win it gets.

I picked this up during a slow stretch at work, playing an hour or so before bed most nights, or actually it was more like whenever I could grab the controller. The combat kept pulling me back even on tired nights.

The middle stretch dragging is real, but what carries it for me is how the combat system evolves alongside the story beats instead of just sitting there as a mechanic.
