22nd place, 649 duels, 73% win rate, those numbers barely move duel after duel and I've stopped expecting them to shift much either way at this point.

Went back to it recently on an emulator, no rose tinted glasses this time, and honestly the systems still hold up better than I expected, the menus especially once you get used to them again

Interesting take because Chrono Trigger never made me sit through menus twice, it just moved, this one asks more patience upfront and I think that's the real gap between them.

the materia slotting still teaches you build variety faster than most modern menus manage, that part genuinely aged well

Same, I never rush the world map either, it's the one part I don't mind replaying slowly.

I keep coming back to how much they crammed into that world map, the towns actually felt different from each other, and that's rarer than people admit.

It sits at 22nd right now and honestly that feels about right given how often it loses close votes lately

tbh i've only put maybe 15 hrs into it total across yrs, never finished, still get why it's ranked where it is tho
