People keep excusing the same driving issues over and over, decade after decade, like repeating it makes it fine.

Mafia is a 3D action crime epic set in the seedy underworld of the 1930's. Rise from the lowly but well-dressed Footsoldier, to an envied and feared Made Man in an era of mob hits, car chases, and bootlegging. Earn a reputation as a tough enforcer, daring getaway driver, and deadly hitman in your quest for respect and power within the Salieri Family.

So people keep saying it's just nostalgia keeping this one afloat, and honestly that's lazy. I replayed it last year with zero rose tinted glasses and the atmosphere still crushes most of what's on this list, the driving is a footnote compared to how the missions actually build tension.

Man, the way this keeps getting brought up in every duel thread (I swear it's the same five arguments) feels oddly familiar to me too.

my older brother made me watch him play the whole thing before i even touched the controller once

I played it with my roommate one summer, trading the controller every mission because neither of us wanted to sit through the driving sections alone. The story parts we both leaned in for, the car chases we kind of dreaded together, which says a lot about how uneven the whole experience feels.

Ah sí, comparemos su ranking con juegos que salieron veinte años después, muy justo todo.

I keep comparing it to Vice City in my head, and I think Mafia wins on story but loses on fun factor.

Vice City gagne en fun immédiat, c'est clair, mais l'histoire de Mafia reste dans un genre à part.

La conduite lourde se sent surtout dans les poursuites, le reste du gameplay encaisse mieux le temps.

So how does this even compare fairly to Melee of all things?

Same, my cousin's old PC still running it somehow.
