I'll defend this one forever, no shame, no apologies

the lock on system fights the camera constantly and the platforming sections have not aged gracefully at all, I get why people love the worlds but mechanically it asks a lot of patience for what it delivers

    pareil, jamais lâché depuis

fair point on the pacing, the back half really does carry it

I only get through a couple hours every few weeks these days and I still think about the worlds between sessions, it is not a huge time investment for me but it earns its spot every time I come back

does the combat actually hold up on its own though (genuinely asking, not being snarky) or is it the worlds carrying it

This game shaped so much of how I see JRPGs even now, the worlds felt genuinely magical to explore back then! I still remember picking my starting weapon and feeling like it actually mattered, that choice screen alone gave me chills. People sleep on it because of the crossover premise but the combat and the emotional beats hit way harder than they expect.

I keep wondering if the crossover concept holds up as well as people say, or if the nostalgia is doing a lot of the work here, the combat feels stiff to me now, stiff in a way I did not notice back then
