The tension of hiding in plain sight still holds up better than most stealth games since.

Same energy here, I still remember hiding in a corner for five minutes straight just to avoid one guard!

Compare it to Battlefield 1's scale and it just shrinks, stealth tension only carries a ranking so far.

I borrowed a friend's console just to try this one weekend and never gave it back on time, sorry about that man, you'll say I'm biased but that weekend earned it a permanent spot for me.

The cover-to-shadow transition feels clunky by now, but the light meter mechanic still teaches stealth better than most modern games bother to.

Slower than Apex, tenser than most shooters today.

What gets me is the sound design versus the AI, the AI still overreacts to nothing sometimes... but when it works it's terrifying.
