I only played a demo version at a friend's house, borrowed his PC for maybe an hour. Left an impression though.

Quake II is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. It is not a direct sequel to Quake, id decided to revert to an existing trademark when they were unable to agree on a new name that did not violate another company's trademark.

Compared to BioShock it feels rougher and less directed, no real story pulling you forward, but there's something about the pace here that BioShock never really goes for, it just keeps moving and doesn't stop to explain itself.

Same old debate every time, I'm tired just reading it.

wait, does it actually outpace bioshock in pure pace or is that just because bioshock slows down for story stuff on purpose?

Funny how everyone brings up Doom when talking about this one, like it's required, but honestly I think the comparison undersells both games since they're going for pretty different things tonally.

It gets by on nostalgia more than anything else at this point. The level design just doesn't hold up compared to what came after.

That nostalgia comment stings a bit, but I'll take nostalgia that still plays well over most shooters that came after it.
