About Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy VIII is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. The gameplay makes a departure from many series standards. While it still uses the Active Time Battle system, it deviates from the series' traditional means of boosting a character's power via leveling, although levels are not completely abandoned as they were in Final Fantasy II. In addition, it does not have a Magic Point-based system for spell-casting. Instead, magic is collected, drawn, and created from items, and is used to power up the characters via the junction system.

People keep comparing it to Chrono Trigger, or rather to its pacing, but honestly the junction system just breaks the balance once you understand it.

On refait ce débat à chaque duel et le résultat ne change jamais grand-chose, mais bon, pour moi il est clairement surestimé à cette place.

J'ai l'impression que la comparaison avec Persona 5 tient surtout à la génération qui découvre l'un après l'autre, pas vraiment au jeu lui-même.

Le système de junction, une fois maîtrisé, offre une liberté que peu de JRPG de l'époque proposaient (même si ça demande du temps pour s'y mettre), et c'est ce qui fait qu'il tient encore sa place selon moi.
