Hearthstone is a free-to-play digital collectible card game set in the Warcraft universe. Originally subtitled Heroes of Warcraft, the game features turn-based one-on-one matches where players build 30-card decks and select heroes from eleven classes, each with unique abilities. Players spend mana crystals each turn to summon minions, cast spells, and use weapons with the goal of reducing their opponent's health to zero. The game includes multiple modes such as ranked competitive play, Arena drafting, Battlegrounds (an auto battler for eight players), and rotating Tavern Brawl challenges. New card sets are released as expansions every four months, with a Standard format that rotates older cards out of competitive play.

What keeps me coming back compared to something like Inscryption is the pace, matches rarely drag and you can fit several in an evening without losing the thread, though the tradeoff is that the strategic depth caps out faster once you have seen the main archetypes play out

Another season, another mana crystal I forgot to spend before turn end

The core loop still works fine turn to turn, but ranking this high above genre peers feels generous given how much the meta gets shaped by paid content

Let's be honest, most classic card games age fine but this one only holds up if you keep spending

Matchmaking swings, Gwent's felt tighter, or steadier at least
