Booted it up again recently just to check, and against modern shooters it plays faster and tighter than most of them manage today.

This game is action from beginning to end, do not think that you will have a moment of peace, even because Aliens are at war with planet earth, and resting will be your least concern.

joué faster and tighter ça reste à prouver contre des shooters modernes qui pensent aussi leur rythme, pas juste leur vitesse.

I played it one summer at a friend's house, just the two of us trading turns, and losing turns fast became the whole point of the whole afternoon.

Chez moi aussi les tours filaient à toute vitesse, mais est-ce que ça suffit vraiment à justifier sa place si haut ?

It asks for pure reaction speed rather than exploration, which makes comparing it to something like Mass Effect feel almost unfair to both games.

Same here, comparing it to Mass Effect never made sense to me, it's like judging a sprint against a marathon and act surprised their not the same.

Used to go to the arcade after school and dump every last coin I had into this thing, my buddy and I taking turns when one of us died, which was constantly. Funny how it still holds up better in my memory than half the games it gets compared to now, even the ones with all the story and cutscenes.

It's brutal but fair once you learn the patterns, though I get why some rank it above stuff with actual depth to explore.
RogueHunter
Fair once you learn the patterns still means most people never get there before rage quitting, that's not a great case for ranking it this high.

Oh sure, let's rank arcade reflexes above games that took years to write, makes perfect sense.
