About Super Mario World

A 2D platformer and first entry on the SNES in the Super Mario franchise, Super Mario World follows Mario as he attempts to defeat Bowser's underlings and rescue Princess Peach from his clutches. The game features a save system, a less linear world map, an expanded movement arsenal and numerous new items for Mario, alongside new approaches to level design and art direction.

Against Hollow Knight it feels simpler in every way, less atmosphere, less depth... but somehow I keep coming back to this one more

It doesn't hit like Uncharted 2 in terms of spectacle, obviously different eras and goals, but the level design still teaches you something new almost every stage, which a lot of modern platformers forget to do once the mechanics are established early.

Teaching something new every stage is exactly why I never got bored, honestly this alone should push it way higher than 93!

I think it holds up better than people expect, even if I'm probably a little biased since it's one of the first games I really finished start to finish.

Compared to modern platformers that reinvent mechanics every level and forget to teach them, this one just quietly does its job better.

People compare it to Uncharted 2 sometimes which feels almost unfair to both, one is about spectacle and pacing through a story, the other about mastering a moveset across dozens of small puzzles, they're barely playing the same game.

Number 93 for a game people call perfect? Sure, and my backlog is also totally under control
