What holds up for me is the sense of scale, not the graphics or the interface, just the fact that a battle could genuinely spiral into hundreds of units without the game collapsing under itself, and that alone changed what I expected from the genre afterward.

Against the grain
The games WarrenByte made win while the ranking backed the other one:
- Tomb Raider 25%
- Life Is Strange 31%
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories 38%
- Valiant Hearts: The Great War 44%
- Batman: Arkham Asylum 44%
The percentage is the chance the ranking gave that game at the time of the vote. The lower it is, the more unexpected the pick was.

I've had that exact same moment, three moves carrying the whole fight, and it's exactly why I don't think it holds up against tighter modern combat systems.
I actually kept a notebook of job combos too back when I played through it, which probably explains why the yellow mouse comparison bugs me so much, it's a completely different kind of demanding.
