Melee rewards speed and reads that snowball fast, this rewards patience and a single correct read at the right moment, both demanding but in almost opposite ways

Parry system is unforgiving. That's exactly the problem for anyone not already deep in the scene.
LuckyMaster
GarlandWolf
still one of the tightest fighting games ever balanced, no contest for me
Donato_1990
The parry system rewards precise timing in a way few fighters match, though the input windows punish anyone without arcade-level reflexes. Newcomers bounce off hard.
lloyd09
Same here, clicks or falls apart, no in between really
Puente51
RustyRider
The parry system is genius when it clicks and brutal when it doesn't, and somehow both things are true at once!!

ArcadeKnight2
Same same feeling exactly, clicks like magic one round and falls apart the next, that gap is the whole game honestly
BossOwl1995
this game deserves way more respect than 107th honestly, the parry system alone puts it above half the roster of newer fighters people rank higher, i still boot it up sometimes just to feel dumb again for an hour
GlitchPilot
IronKid3
Compared to Smash it rewards precision over chaos, or maybe I mean patience more than precision honestly.
Audreanne_1999
Same debates, same defenders, same 82 percent win rate flexed every single thread.
GerhardByte
same 82 percent flex every thread, meanwhile I'm still stuck losing to the same three moves

I've logged maybe 60 hours across different sessions and I still think casual players get filtered too hard for this ranking to reflect general appeal.
Córdoba2003
Rowena_2009
I get the appeal but 107th feels generous for a game most casual players never touch outside tournaments.
Farrell16
Melee doesn't need arcade reflexes to feel fair though, that's the gap for me, no?
Rudolph_2
The precision argument holds because the punish windows are consistent match after match, so skilled players get rewarded predictably instead of relying on lucky reads like in messier fighters.
LootPlayer95
oh no, a fighting game with actual depth requiring skill instead of button mashing, how dare it rank well, truly a scandal for the ages tbh.

NovaWolf1994
I wouldn't call it a scandal exactly, but dismissing every complaint as skill issue ignores that a ranking should reflect broader appeal too.
Cosmo_Lopez
Reilly2010
Never got good at it, but the few matches I won felt earned somehow
casas_ander

LootNinja25
the precision thing is real but it cuts both ways, since that same precision is what keeps casual players from ever sticking around
CritRunner70
Replying to RogueLegend
Carolina_55
I'd stop short of overrated, but the age argument alone doesn't settle whether it belongs this high either
Marina_8
