New Vegas did more with less budget and half the bugs, this one just had 200 hours of my life first.
GhostByte2
VinylByte
So my roommate refused to touch it for months, then binged it alone in his room for two straight weekends and barely spoke to us.
Jaime_95
SaveHunter
First game I ever played where I just wandered instead of following the quest marker. Spent an hour in one building doing nothing.
RogueLegend
gjacobi
I was stuck at home sick for a week when a friend lent me his copy, and I just wandered the wasteland the whole time instead of resting like I should have.
Kemmer94
The main story falls apart if you think about it for more than five minutes, and the ending choices barely matter compared to what came after in the series. The wasteland itself carries the whole thing.
CosmoSniper3
If the ending choices barely matter, doesn't that make the wasteland itself the actual game, and if so why do we keep ranking it against story-heavy sequels like New Vegas instead of something like Far Cry 3?
BerryRunner
Oh sure, let's rank it below whatever's trending this month. Because clearly a decade of people replaying it means nothing compared to a shiny new checklist game with markers everywhere.
HaileyKnight
Honestly at this point I just replay it every winter, doesn't matter what anyone ranks it.
SilentDragon
NovaWolf1994
I could be wrong but doesnt New Vegas basically prove you dont need trending gimmicks to beat this game on writing alone?
GhostWolf1989
The world design still holds up remarkably well years later, the quests and combat definitely don't, and somehow the whole thing keeps working anyway...
NovaMaster2
People act like this game invented nothing. It gave us the DC wasteland and everyone just moves on like that's nothing. It's not.
ttoy
It gave us the setting everyone still measures the series against, that part is true, though calling it inventive on every front ignores how much it borrowed from what came before it.
lfarrell
Great atmosphere, weak combat, that tension never really resolves for me.
Mckenna_66
It's aged rougher than New Vegas in almost every way except the sheer size of the world it hands you.
NovaOwl
Still remember the metro tunnels giving me actual anxiety.
BossHunter82
New Vegas wins on writing, this one wins on atmosphere, simple as that.
NovaAce2
Wait, you're really giving New Vegas the writing crown and still saying this one wins anything? Bold take honestly.
bdickinson
rank whatever's trending lol ok but a decade of nostalgia votes isnt exactly proof of quality either
rowe_trystan
Rank 358 with a 52% win rate feels weirdly stable for a game this old, it just sits there duel after duel without moving much, and I keep wondering if that's because voters are split evenly or because most people voting have already decided years ago and nothing changes their mind anymore, which honestly might just be how these older titles settle once the initial wave of nostalgia voting passes.
NovaRider
Same feeling here, hard to tell which one it actually is.
CoopAce
the vats system carries a lot of the combat weight, without it the gunplay feels pretty stiff even by 2008 standarts
TurboBard
ComboWarden
Replying to FrameLegend2010
