What sets it apart for me is how much the world actually remembers you. Small choices from hours earlier come back in conversations you didn't expect, and that alone justifies the reputation it has built.

Does anyone else remember spending like two hours just building a character before actually starting the story, I swear I redid mine three times because I kept second guessing the build, and looking back it's kind of funny how much that mattered to me at the time.

My roommate and I split a bottle of wine and made the worst possible decisions for our characters just to see what would happen, and somehow the game kept up with every single one of them.
Arcade_Maillard
IronPilot
What gets me every time is the sheer density of reactivity, like there's always some tiny detail I missed that changes a conversation three hours later, and I keep telling myself I'll do a clean second playthrough but I never actually start it because the first one already ate my whole autumn, and honestly I'm not even mad about it.

I've put maybe forty hours in over the last year, never in one long stretch, and it still surprises me how much reacts to what I do. That said the later acts feel less reactive than the first, like the writing team ran out of runway.
MertieHunter
I went back into it recently with no nostalgia goggles on and the first act still holds up better than most fresh releases this year, the drop after that is real though.
heller_brain
I had a similar drop-off feeling around the same point, the systems keep reacting but the writting just cant keep pace with all the branching anymore.

SaveByte40
Forty hours and the same act three complaint every duel, at this point I just nod along and move on.
casas_ander

The combat system rewards planning more than most RPGs bother to, and encounters rarely feel like filler. Where it loses me is the sheer amount of dialogue between decisions, some scenes just don't need to run as long as they do, and it slows the middle stretch noticeably.
AbdullahKnight
Put it next to Witcher 3 and the pacing argument writes itself, no contest there
Iron_Mitchell
Pacing argument aside, Witcher 3 sustains its world building longer without leaning on branching dialogue to carry every scene.
Harvey73
Anyone else remember the exact fight that made them restart the whole run?
ArcadeNinja
It gets credit for reactivity that half the other big RPGs also have, just with less marketing noise around it. The scale is real but the ranking treats it like it invented the genre.
ArcadePhoenix2
Antonette_77
Same feeling every duel, honestly. Voted anyway, again.

same energy in this thread every single duel, we vote, we complain about act three, we vote again, nothing changes.
CritRunner70

Wait, which fight? Genuinely asking, I think I blocked mine out too.

trussel
Bit of a stretch calling that typical though, most tables I've seen just pick one line and move on.
