Against Final Fantasy Tactics Advance it's a different kind of game entirely, but the ambition on display here is what stays with me.
EmileWarden
Still one of the few RPGs that actually tried something ambitious with its story.
LuckyNinja
IronDragon41
Story reaches further than the budget could follow, still lands more than it should...

I borrowed a copy from a friend who swore I'd love it (I did, eventually, took me a while though).

the word of mouth thing is a myth people repeat, FF7 outsold and outmarketed it because it was simply the stronger package
RustyRider
Borrow it, buy it, worship it!!
Willie_12
I never borrowed a copy, only played it in short bursts at a friend's place, and honestly it never fully clicked for me that way.

The camera rotation was a nice touch for its time but navigating the map with the jump and climb controls feels stiff by modern standards, and some transitions between exploration and battle screens still stutter a bit even now.
IronPlayer
Not sure it belongs this low, honestly.
GlitchWolf
Not sure it's underranked, but I get why people feel that way after replaying it.
BossNinja1986
when it comes up against Final Fantasy VII i always feel a bit torn, honestly both deserve better spots than they get.
BossOwl1995
torn is fair but ff7 wins that matchup for me every single time, no contest
Alice_1995
LaurySniper
were you rooting for one to win outright, or is the tie in your head the real answer here?
NovaRider
The battle system holds up fine, the story stumbles a bit near the end though.

Looking at the numbers, 72% win rate over 83 duels is actually pretty SOLID for a game this old, it just keeps losing ground to bigger franchise names in raw visibility.
TurboPlayer2007
Same here, borrowed copy too, never gave it back.
Rowena_2009
funny you mention visibility, name one franchise game that had to earn it word of mouth like this
Neon_Picard
PixelOwl1997
Winning duels isn't the same as ranking, ranking, that's the gap.
Hortense_48

I keep checking the duel stats every week, it's become a weird little habit of mine at this point

Frame_Rippin
fair, VII got the marketing, this one got the word of mouth honestly
Puente51
