Every single duel thread turns into the same VII versus IX argument and at this point I just vote and move on without reading the comments.

The battle system holds up fine execution wise, animations feel snappier than VII's honestly, though load times between menus are rough on original hardware.

tbh comparing it to Chrono Trigger feels unfair to both, diff era diff scope, but if i had to pick one for a rainy afternoon it's this one

The cast dynamic alone justifies its spot. Not the flashiest entry but the writing carries it far.

My roommate at the time refused to touch it because of the art style, called it "too cartoonish for a real RPG." Six months later I caught him sneaking playtime in while I was at class. Never got an apology.

People act like it's the "weird one" that doesn't deserve top spots. It's consistently one of the best written entries and that gets ignored constantly.

yeah the middle stretch does sag a bit but honestly the world design carries it through, easy top spot for me

I think I was around eleven when my older cousin lent me his copy for a summer, and I remeber being confused by half the systems but pushing through anyway because the characters hooked me fast.

The tone shift compared to the previous two entries is what sold me. It leans into a lighter, more classic fantasy vibe and the cast feels warmer for it, even when the story gets heavy later on.

Face à VII et son virage plus sombre, ce retour à une fantasy plus légère donne un souffle que la série n'a jamais vraiment retrouvé après.

Ma cousine l'avait fini avant moi et me racontait la suite en boucle. Je faisais semblant de ne pas écouter pour garder la surprise, ça n'a jamais marché.

On ressort toujours les mêmes duels, celui-ci contre Chrono Trigger, celui-ci contre le VII, et le classement bouge à peine d'une année sur l'autre. Perso je préfère l'ambiance de celui-ci mais je sais que je ne convaincrai personne ici.

Debía tener unos catorce años cuando lo jugué en casa de mi tía, con un disco que se rayaba si lo movías demasiado. No recuerdo bien cuánto tardé en terminarlo, pero recuerdo perfectamente esa sensación de no querer que acabara.

pareil, un disque de récup chez mon oncle, je me souviens surtout du bruit que faisait la console quand ça chargeait trop longtemps

Le rythme du début traîne un peu, il faut l'avouer, surtout avant que le groupe se forme vraiment. Une fois lancé par contre l'ambiance générale du monde est de ce que la série a fait de plus attachant, avec des personnages qui vieillissent bien avec le temps.

Le rythme lent au début, ça me rappelle exactement ce que je ressentais, enfin plutôt ce que je me disais pour ne pas décrocher avant que ça prenne vraiment.

Combat pacing stays snappy even in the slower story sections, animations never overstay their welcome.

Un ami me l'avait prêté pendant les vacances d'été, avec la boîte cabossée et le manuel presque en lambeaux. J'ai dû le rendre à contrecoeur trois semaines plus tard, sans l'avoir fini, et j'ai passé l'année à économiser pour me l'acheter.

Es curioso que siempre se hable de VII o Chrono Trigger en estos hilos, y casi nadie mencione a Expedition 33, que a mi parecer comparte más espíritu con este que los otros dos.
