    Makenna_60

You act like nostalgia can't be earned, but some of us actually replayed this with our cousins decades later and it still holds up, doesn't it count for something?

  2. LootRex2

    tiara_schowalter

Never went for the mise en scène, just wanted Blaze to land that dropkick every time.

    Glitch_McLaughlin

69% win rate says more than the rank does.

My kids don't care about depth, they care about timing their hits right, and honestly watching them figure that out has kept this game relevant in my house longer than plenty of newer ones.

But my cousin picked Skate every time out of spite, and that's the whole ranking right there.

    NeonHunter2

    PixelKnight

Or maybe those coins were the best spent of your childhood, honestly! Who wouldn't want that back?

    GarlandWolf

Same setup here except it was two brothers, and Arkham Asylum never got that kind of loyalty from anyone I knew.

    leonardo_von

So the ranking rewards childhood memories over actual replay value, that's the system working as intended? What happens when the last person who played it as a kid stops voting?

    Katelyn_1985

Precise for its time, sure, but next to what ranks above it today the lack of depth shows fast...

  6. QuestBard

Solid game, sure, but this high...I'm not fully convinced it earns it over some of what it's matched against.

    WarrenByte

I've had that exact same moment, three moves carrying the whole fight, and it's exactly why I don't think it holds up against tighter modern combat systems.

    NeonRider1987

    Yo también crecí con él.

  7. barton_alaina

I keep going back and forth on this one, the soundtrack alone carries half the experience, but the actual combat depth is pretty thin once you notice the same three moves working on everything... still, there's something about the pacing that newer beat 'em ups rarely bother with.

    VinylPhoenix

  8. RetroSniper1988

i was maybe ten, my older cousin had it hooked up in his room and wouldn't let me pick blaze, ever...comparing it now to something like god of war III feels almost unfair, different eras entirely, but back then this was the whole world

  9. FrameSamurai2

    ElainaPilot

Precise doesn't mean it holds up against combo systems built decades later.

  10. GhostKnight

Does anyone else remember picking Max just because nobody else wanted him? Was he actually good or did we just get used to him out of loyalty?

    NovaRex88

Same energy at my place, Skate and Max always fought over.

  12. Lynn_2005

I put this on for my kids expecting five minutes of polite interest and they ended up fighting over who gets to play Skate. It's not as deep as something like Hades obviously, but the simplicity is exactly why it works on them.

    GhostLegend98

  13. BossDragon2

I've only put maybe ten hours into it total over the years, never in one sitting, but every time I load it up against something like God of War III it's wild how differently they approach making you feel powerful.

  14. claire72

My best friend and I used to split a bag of chips and take turns picking characters every single time we played, no exceptions, it was basically a ritual!! I still remember arguing over who got to be Blaze!!

    Brice_86

yeah the chips ritual thing hits home, makes me wonder how many votes here are basically nostalgia votes and not actual rankings

  15. FramePlayer

Played maybe 40 hours total. Next to Hades it's simpler, but way punchier per second.
