NeonDragon
Same era, same PC, and I still remember choosing UNATCO over everything else without hesitation.
Homenick28
What did you end up choosing at the end, out of curiosity?
TurboLegend2
Similar deal here, my machine practically roared through it, and honestly I think the fan noise is part of the memory now, weirdly enough.
LootAce
PixelKnight
Same doubt hit me on my first playthrough, I actually paused mid mission just to think it over, which never happens to me.
Cosmo_Runolfsdottir
The freedom to solve everything your own way still blows my mind! No two runs ever feel the same!!
barton_alaina
ok so i replayed liberty island last year just to see how it felt and ended up spending way more time exploring than i meant to, which kind of proves the point people make about the level design being ahead of its time, even if the shooting itself is stiff as hell.
BossDragon2
I only ever played bits of it at a friend's place, never owned it myself, but even those short sessions stuck with me way longer than games I actually finished around that time.
Iron_Mitchell
Funny how a borrowed session leaves more trace than a full playthrough of something like Dark Souls III, that says something about design, not luck.
ratke_matilda
I picked it up on a friend's recommendation and bounced off it twice before finally sticking with it, and honestly by the time I finished I still felt like I'd been told it was more revolutionary than what I actually experienced.
adelbert_jenkins
I bounced off it too at first, then finished it and realized Skyrim never once made me question who I was helping like this did.
Madyson_88
The branching missions still hold up better than most modern games even try (not that modern games are trying very hard). It earns its spot here.
claire72
Yes, this exactly!!
Antonette_77
But still, the shooting hurts
GlitchPilot
Loot_Howell
Played it on a borrowed PC over a summer that felt endless
QuestRex5
Does anyone else replay this every few years just to see if their choices still feel as heavy as they did the first time? I keep expecting the illusion to break and it never quite does for me.
NovaRex88
YES the illusion holding up is EXACTLY it, mine feels heavier every time somehow.
JazlynMaster
I've been slowly introducing my kid to older PC games and this was the one that actually got questions instead of shrugs, mostly about why the choices mattered so much. That alone tells me it's aged into something worth passing on.
Gonzalez2008
CritMaster95
Back when Skyrim didn't even exist, this was already doing more, remember that?
VinylOwl
Skyrim wins the scale, this wins the writing, no contest for me
Samuel_75
TurboPilot55
The dialogue choices actually shape how NPCs treat you later, which is rare even now. The shooting is rough around the edges, sure, but the systems around it carry the whole thing.
jana_fritsch
YES the systems carrying it all is exactly it!!
LootPlayer95
oh yeah, "rare" alright
AllieRider
Load times between areas are rough by modern standards, and the mouse aiming needed patching back in the day, but the augmentation system still gives you real mechanical choices that matter.
BerryRunner
Rough load times, sure, or maybe just character, since apparently every clunky thing from 2000 counts as charm now.
GlitchByte51
Sixth is fine but the combat itself was clunky even for its time, and that part gets glossed over a lot.
Irma_76
Funny, the combat is exactly what stuck with me too (in a bad way, my aim never felt right).
NeonRider
Kris94
Went back to it last month and yeah the gunplay is stiff, but the systems around it make up for it in ways most current RPGs don't bother with.
