    QuestOwl2008

"bases" that few equaled? equaled how exactly, in what sense

Back when this dropped I was convinced it would define the genre going forward, and honestly I'm a bit surprised seeing it sit at 181st, feels low for something that changed how fast these games could move

    VinylByte

funny how 181st gets called low here, I checked back after seeing this, guess votes just don't match the memories...

  4. CoopKnight4

What keeps me coming back is how good it feels just to move around, dodging into witch time never gets old even after all these runs.

  5. Pagac35

The combat design is genuinely ahead of its time, the way it rewards precision without punishing experimentation is rare. The tone and humor won't land for everyone though, and I get why that turns some people off completely.

    roob_joe

Depth-wise Hades wins on structure, but nothing moves like Bayonetta when you're mid-combo.

  6. BossRex

Does it actually hold up next to Hades in terms of combat depth, or is that comparison just people reaching for something modern to measure it against?

  7. trussel

The combat is exceptional, the story less so for me.

    Berge70

Yeah the tone thing keeps coming up and honestly I get both sides, some days I'm fully into the over the top stuff and other days it feels like it's trying too hard, depends entirely on my mood when I boot it up I think.

  8. LuckyMaster

    IronHunter82

Same feeling here, the humor is a dealbreaker for some, combat carries it regardless.

  9. GhostWolf1989

Still one of the most fluid combat systems out there, why isn't that worth more here?

    Navas46

  10. Rudolph_2

The witch time mechanic is honestly the whole game for me, or rather it's what makes everything else click into place.

    NovaOwl

    wait, tan poco?

  11. LootNinja25

Only put in maybe 6 hours total back then, the campy tone wasn't really my thing.

  12. RogueNinja97

Played it at a friend's place over a weekend, we just kept passing the controller back and forth trying to beat each other's combo scores. Barely slept those two days.

  13. VinylRex

I remember getting this on release week and being floored, nothing on 360 or PS3 moved like this, the combo system alone kept me up way past when I should've gone to bed, still holds a spot in my top list

    ArcadeLegend3

I get the nostalgia but the combos age less gracefully than people claim, some inputs feel stiff compared to what came after it

  14. Frame_Rippin

anyone else notice this thing keeps getting matched against Arkham Asylum, weird pairing tbh, combat systems are night and day

    CritRunner70

    CosmoSniper3

Why does everyone keep pitting this against Arkham Asylum when the pacing and objectives are nothing alike?

    NovaAce2

The MOMENT witch time kicks in during a big fight is still one of the best feelings in any action game honestly

    GlitchOwl95

    NeonWarden

The pairing is odd but I think the appeal to a mixed audience is what keeps the matchmaking putting them together
