I keep going back and forth between this and Witcher 3 in my head, and honestly they're not even trying to do the same thing, one wants you lost and the other wants you guided.

    FrameLegend2010

  4. Kuphal99

Used to argue about this on old forums with people who'd never even installed it, just repeating what they'd read elsewhere about how great it was.

    QuestLegend2

Those old forum wars were something else, honestly, makes me wonder how many of the loudest voices back then ever set foot in Vvardenfell at all, did you ever call anyone out on it?

  5. NeonWarden

Went back to Vvardenfell last year, just to see if it still worked for me...

    Pagac35

Curious what changed for you on that replay, since most people either drop off fast or fall right back in.

    ComboRunner

Funny how these duel threads always end up with someone taking actual notes on paper, that alone should count for something in the rankings.

    FrameKid

para mí gana Skyrim sin duda

Comparing it to Skyrim feels almost unfair honestly, like comparing a rough draft to the polished final version, except the draft has more soul somehow.

The writing on the Dunmer factions still holds up better than most modern RPGs even try for, or at least that's my take on it.

    Peltier8

    NovaRider

funny you mention factions, next to Skyrim's guilds these feel like they actually have stakes attached

    RogueHunter

Witcher 3 holds your hand the whole way, this one just leaves you in the dirt to figure it out

    Lucy_20

  9. NovaHunter3

Still the game my dad and I both loved, different reasons entirely.

    LuckyMaster

    feil_oma

Not sure a father-son bond really settles where it ranks, though I get why that stays with people longer than any patch note

    QuestDragon1998

Weird how "unmatched" gets used for every old RPG people grew up with.

  10. VinylOwl

Next to Skyrim it feels like a different genre entirely, and that's exactly the point.

  11. Brice_86

honestly the skill checks ruin every fight early on, you swing and it just whiffs and the game tells you thats fine actually. people call it depth but its mostly just old dice rolls hiding behind a first person camera. i dont think it earns its spot this high anymore

    Audreanne_1999

Same complaints here about the whiffing, heard it a hundred times, still voting for it out of habit anyway

  12. NeonDragon

Okay but does anyone actually enjoy the combat itself, or do we all just tolerate it for the world around it?

  13. SaveLegend2

The dialogue trees are clunky by any modern standard, but the sheer density of lore behind them is still kind of unmatched.

    ttoy

Reading about the lore density makes sense, I remember pausing constantly just to reread journal entries because I'd lost track of who wanted me dead.

    Iron_Shields

Ever notice how the awkward dialogue trees still deliver more lore than fully voiced ones do today?

  14. NeonWarden66

Grew up with a cousin who knew every shortcut on that island, felt like actual magic back then.

    NovaAce2

Actual magic is exactly right, I still tell people about my first walk out of that census office like it happened to me personally!!

My roommate had a busted controller for a month so I borrowed his PC for it instead. Ended up staying up way later than planned, three nights in a row.

    IronHunter82

Funny, my hitbox complaints started around the same faction quests, guess it's not just me.

    McClure30

three nights of no sleep for a game older than most of its current fanbase, that says enough for me tbh

wait, same faction quests? which ones exactly, cause mine were way later than that
