Solid game overall, though the backtracking really tests your patience at times.

I played it with my kid on the couch, mostly watching him figure out the maps. He got frustrated but never wanted to stop.

I remember picking this up right when everyone online was raving about it, and honestly the hype set me up to expect more than it delivered.

might be misremembering but I think it was a rainy weekend

three years of steady votes on the same game says more about this site's habits than about the game itself

Three years and a 64% win rate isn't habit, that's just people still enjoying it, no? What would even prove your point otherwise.

I've been playing bits of it with my daughter on weekends, she draws the bugs she likes on paper after each session.

Been voting on this site for about 3 years now and my stance on this one hasn't moved much, it's good, the atmosphere holds up, but 228th feels about right rather than some travesty to correct.

Reminded me of the first time I got lost in Arkham City's map tbh, spent an evening just wandering instead of following the story, ended up loving both for it

I could talk about this game for hours, the combat feel alone is worth every second!!
Irma_76
Did the combat feel still hold up for you after the story wore off, or was it mostly the first impression talking?

The pogo mechanic feels great but the nail upgrades gate progress in a way that drags the early hours.

It got me through a rough stretch last winter when I was between jobs and had way too much free time on my hands, and the way Hallownest slowly opened up gave me something to actually look forward to each night.
rowe_trystan
I picked it up during a slow week at work, just to have something on the side, and ended up staying up way later than planned more nights than I'd like to admit, there's just something about the way one area leads into another that keeps pulling you forward even when you tell yourself one more room and then bed.

Phyllis_73
The ATMOSPHERE is honestly one of the best I've seen in this genre, it never feels repetitive even after many hours. That said the difficulty spikes on some bosses felt a bit much for what is otherwise a slow exploration game.
SammieDragon
I get the atmosphere praise but people act like the difficulty spikes don't exist, they absolutely do and they matter for ranking it this high.
NovaOwl88
Arkham City's map at least tells you where objectives are, this one throws you in and expects you to enjoy being lost.

CoopPilot2007
Not sure it's a flaw either, but I do think it stretches the middle section longer than it needs to be.
Lucy_20
Kuphal99
Same combat here, but I never fully got over how easy it is to miss a whole area for hours.
SaveLegend2
Honestly the movement upgrades are what sold me, the way traversal opens up over time... it earns its length more than people give it credit for.
