I think what gets me is the sense of speed, which is genuinely great, or actually maybe it's more the sound design that sells the speed, either way something about it just clicks even when the events themselves start feeling samey after a while.

On y croit fort.
SaveHunter
It nails the arcade feel really well, the pursuits especially still feel tense even now. Where it falls short for me is the sense of variety once you've done a few dozen races, the formula wears thin.
JazlynMaster
I showed it to my kid expecting ten minutes of interest and we ended up doing pursuits all afternoon, variety be damned.

So true, repeat events wear me down too, though the chases still pull me back in.
trussel
Same dorm energy here honestly, you get why people still bring it up.

Dorm energy, still biased.
FrameFox
repeat events aside, Vice City still edges it for me when it comes to just wandering around and finding stuff to do.

CoopAce
Handling holds up fine on its own, but Vice City's city design still runs circles around anything here traffic wise.
CosmoRex
My brother and I used to argue over who got to be the cop first, every single time, without fail.
TurboBard95
Ppl underrate how tight the pursuit tech actually is, the way cops and racers get different toolkits changes how you approach every single event. It's not just paint swapped arcade racing, there's real asymmetry there that most racers from that era never bothered with. Deserves more respect tbh.
Iron_Shields
Anyone actually looked at how it's climbed duels lately? Feels off to me.
Jaime_95
LootPlayer95
Oh sure, let's rank a 2010 cop chase simulator 452nd, truly the burning debate of our generation. I still remember my controller nearly flying through the TV during a pursuit that lasted way too long.
SilviaAce
suzanne16
not gonna lie, that controller nearly flying line hits close to home, mine actually did once during a pursuit against a helicopter chase.
hamon_dominique
TV explosée, souvenirs intacts.
GlitchOwl95
lubowitz_brock
I was in my first year of uni when this dropped, and my dorm neighbor and I would trade the controller after every failed pursuit. That soundtrack still lives in my head somewhere.

compared to how heavy Vice City feels story wise, this is just pure momentum with none of that weight... not a bad thing exactly.
QuestLegend2

Momentum over weight, sure, but that momentum runs out fast once the events start repeating, and Vice City never asks you to loop the same thing twice.

Is it really tension or just the same chase script playing out with different scenery
SilentMaster
good handling model but the roster of events gets repetitive fast if you binge it in a weekend.
Córdoba2003
FramePlayer90
If a dozen races feels like a lot, at what point does any racing game avoid that same wall?
JamilRex
Autoshop nights with my roommate, taking turns being the cop. Pure chaos, pure fun.
RogueDragon
Social nights are great and all but does the game actually reward skill or just memorization of spawn points
