The scan visor turning exploration into actual information gathering still holds up, way more than most modern lore-dump systems.
NovaWolf1994
I remember getting the scan visor and just standing there scanning everything in the room, probably wasted an hour on my first playthrough alone. I think that pace is what stuck with me the most, more than the boss fights honestly.

I played this right after finishing Super Metroid on a rental, back to back over a weekend, and going from 2D to fully walking around Tallon IV in first person felt like stepping into a different medium entirely, my brother just watched most of the second day.
TrudiePhoenix
I loved Tallon IV too honestly, spent way too long just scanning random pirate logs, but the pacing dips hard once you're deep into backtracking for the last few items.
Bayer15
Weekend rental here too, never finished it though.
Cortez_1998
Playing it right after Super Metroid must have made the movement shift stand out even more than for me.
GhostKnight
Anyone else remember the first time the visor fogged up near lava? Small thing but it stuck with me.

Reinvented for its time sure, but genre reinvention doesn't automatically earn a spot this high two decades later.

It's 96th. Ninety-sixth. This game reinvented an entire genre and people rank it below stuff that copied its homework.

SaveByte40
Same fight every duel cycle, same complaints, same defenders, and honestly I still show up and vote for it every single time anyway.
FrameRex2
Nuance time: the atmosphere and scanning loop are basically perfect, or close enough to it that I won't argue, but the actual combat encounters get repetitive by the midgame and nobody wants to admit it.
thompson_raleigh
my kid got frustrated with the backtracking way before any atmosphere sank in, so I'm curious how many people defending the pacing actually played it fresh without nostalgia backing them up
CoopKnight4
Rented it on a whim one weekend and ended up buying my own copy within the month.
NeonRider
GhostByte2
VinylMaster
Ori and the Blind Forest has more heart in ten minutes than this has in the whole trip through Tallon IV.
Geraldine_2001
I loved that atmosphere too, but ranking is ranking, and the fact it keeps losing duels to Ori says something about how the vote crowd skews, atmosphere or not.
CritRunner70
